Photography: As Close As You Can Get

The “As Close As You Can Get” photo assignment wanted us to look at common objects on the macro level. This assignment ended up being tricky for me — not because of its nature, but because one hand was nearly unusable due to a car accident earlier this week. Thankfully a tripod and remote shutter button solved most of that problem.

Not all of these ended up being quite as crisp or macro as I had hoped, but I’m still pleased with the results. If you’re stumped, I’ve listed what each image is at the end of this post.

The images are:

  1. Blueberries (thawed)
  2. Crocheted hat
  3. Ice crystals from frozen water inside a glass jug
  4. Salted green beans
  5. Gemstone pendant (I forget the exact type)
  6. Cat food
  7. Hair curlers
  8. My daughter’s hair (see below)
  9. Jingle bells on a pair of earrings
  10. Poinsettia leaf (only older photo I used)
  11. Lettuce
  12. Footboard on my bed
  13. Colored pencils

My daughter had wanted to be part of this assignment, so I obliged. Due to a longer exposure, I needed her hair to not move, so had to get creative. She’s a tad bummed that I took this photo of the setup right after she had stuck her tongue out for the picture. 😉
